Dance Portraits – Charlotte and Lillie
We’re back with more portraits of people who can do things that I (J.P.) can’t do.
Charlotte and Lillie have been dancing for many years and, based on these moves, have been working hard on it. Here Charlotte demonstrates what appears to be a still from that kung-fu/ballet crossover classic Pointe of the Dragon*.
And here you’ll see Lillie practicing her deadly “Grand Jet-Li”.

The Mirosavich Family Photos
The Mirosaviches got in touch with us because they had the rare opportunity to get all three generations of their family together to celebrate their patriarch’s birthday. (“Patriarch” sounds better than “granddad”, right?) It was great to get photos not only of the whole family, but of the family units therein, and, of course, the kiddos.
Senior Photos: Vivien
Let me introduce Vivien.
Vivien has been a friend of ours for many years. When she was little, Wendy taught her ballet, and she was the flower girl at our wedding. (She did a great job, by the way.) While Vivien isn’t technically a senior, when you’re as lovely as she is any time is a good one for a portrait session and besides, “not-quite-senior-photos” doesn’t really have a ring to it.
It’s tempting to tell you that Vivien is a dancer, and a fantastic one at that but, frankly, if you can’t figure that out from the photos, then no amount of text is going to help you.
It’s much harder to get across in a photo how sweet Vivien is, but I think Wendy did a pretty terrific job with this next one.
For these photos, Wendy and I hung out with Vivien at 701 Whaley and basically made her jump, and jump, and jump, and occasionally lounge in a window. (Even dancers deserve a break.)
We might have asked her to just twirl a little bit, too.
Vivien is well on her way to achieving her goal of dancing professionally for the New York City Ballet. While Wendy chose not to pursue dance professionally, I think the grace and discipline that her studies engendered radiate in everything she does. Don’t think, though, that just the ladies can have grace, poise, and athleticism. When testing light, I’m willing to show off my moves, too…
My form would be better, but my tights were at the cleaners.
The summer is flying by, and if you’re ready to have your senior photos made, drop us a line by clicking here or call us at 803.386.9197 to arrange a free consultation.
BJ + Donna: A Columbia Wedding
Meet Donna and B.J.. Wendy and I first met this lovely couple last year at the wedding of Dave and Natalia, another wonderful couple who also happens to have adorable little girls…but more on them later.
Donna and B.J. had a wedding that fit them perfectly: beautiful, relaxed, and lots of fun. Before the wedding, though, Donna had a bridal session with us at 701 Whaley and the Horseshoe. That gave her a chance to wear her dress, figure out how to bustle it, and to learn our posing tips so that on the day of her wedding she was ready. Donna knows how to rock an s-curve!
The wedding itself was at Seacoast Irmo, and although it was a touch warm (as Columbia in June is wont to be) it really could not have been a much more beautiful day.
The flowers were provided by Debby West of Think Floral who is not only delightful, but who clearly knows more about flowers than I can ever hope to know.
Here’s B.J. ironing out some last-minute kinks. Note that he’s smiling. Donna and B.J. both stayed relaxed throughout the day and all the little things that keep weddings interesting.
The bride and her lovely bridesmaids!
Lydia: Columbia Bridal Portraits
With the weather turning gloriously spring-like here in Columbia (then turning frigidly cold, then monsoon-esque, then summer-ish, then back to spring) it’s a great time for bridal portraits! Unfortunately, no matter how much I’d like to show you some of the gorgeous brides we’ve photographed recently, I dare not face their (or their mothers’) ire by letting you see their photos before their wedding day. (‘Ire’, in case you’re not familiar with the word, means ‘bludgeoning’.)
Fortunately, though, we have some lovely bridals we can share with you from Lydia’s session last spring at Columbia’s 701 Whaley.
Lydia really knows how to rock a serious pose, as you can see. Click here to read more.
